Choosing firewood

What wood should I burn for a wood burning stove?

It is recommended to check with the manufacture as to best practice or any limitations with your wood burning stove but most units will facilitate the use of most types of wood. We supply a variety of wood products which include Oak, Ash, Beech, Chestnut and a hard wood mix which are all fantastic for wood burners.

What should I burn on an open fire?

Our supply of hard woods such as Oak, Ash, Beech and mixed hard woods are perfect for open fire places. The products which are not best suited for open fires are that of soft wood such as Pine and Chestnut. These products are known to spit from the fire place. As with all open fires we recommend care and vigilance with the use of fire guards when enjoying your open fire.

What is the best wood to burn?

This is a difficult question to answer as it depends upon your individual installation, but the following provides a good indication.

Chestnut – Provides a good flame and heat, perfect for wood stoves but not recommended for open fires as tends to spit.
Oak – A very dense slow burn hard wood which provides good heat but with a small flame.
Ash – Many would consider the best wood to burn, produces a steady flame with good heat output.
Beech – Very similar product to the Ash.
